The City of Goodyear seeks artists to create artwork representing countries or territories celebrated during Hispanic Heritage Month for display at the Ritmos Y Raices/Rhythm and Roots event on October 10, 2026, with exhibition continuing through January 13, 2027 at Goodyear City Hall.

About the Project
Selected artists will create two original paintings representing two different assigned countries or territories on 11" x 14" canvas. Artwork should celebrate authentic aspects of the country's heritage and avoid stereotypes or culturally insensitive imagery. Artists are responsible for supplying all materials (paint, equipment, water, etc.). Canvases will be provided by the City.
Artist Responsibilities
- Attend project kick-off meeting to discuss expectations and logistics and retrieve canvases
- Complete paintings off-site and return by October 2, 2026
- Approach assigned country or territory with respect, thoughtful research, and cultural sensitivity
- Highly encouraged to attend the Ritmos Y Raices/Rhythm and Roots event on October 10, 2026, to engage with attendees and discuss work
- May reclaim completed artwork following the conclusion of the exhibition
Submission Materials
- Narrative responses (no page limit specified): (a) Why are you interested in participating? What does Hispanic Heritage mean to you personally and/or artistically? (b) Which country or territory would you most want to represent? (c) Which additional country or territory would you want to learn about? (d) How would you research and represent an unfamiliar country or territory?
- Current resume (not to exceed 3 pages)
- 3–5 digital images of relevant past work in high-quality JPG format only (no GIFs, TIFFs, or other formats); files must be less than 5 MB; include title, media, dimensions, location, brief description, date, project budget, and project partners
- Specific project proposals are not requested
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will review submissions based on excellence of past work, artist's ability to communicate a theme, and technical skill.
