Overview
South Arts announces three grant initiatives for Summer 2026: Arts in Community, Emerging Traditional Arts (ETAP), and In These Mountains (ITM) Infrastructure Grants. Each program supports different layers of the Southern arts ecosystem with project-based and operational funding.

Arts in Community Grants
Supports project-based engagements between Southern artists/companies and communities. Artists or organizations visit another Southern state for a minimum of two public-facing activities: a public presentation (film screening, performance, reading, or exhibition) and an educational/community engagement activity (workshop, demonstration, lecture, facilitated discussion, or master class). Awards up to $10,000.
Emerging Traditional Artists Program (ETAP)
Recognizes and supports emerging artists demonstrating high-level skill, commitment, and leadership in traditional art forms. Recipients receive $5,000 awards to support learning opportunities including training, networking, and promotion. Awardees participate in virtual networking workshops, peer mentorship, and professional development.
In These Mountains Infrastructure Grants
Supports folk art and traditional culture organizations engaged in handcrafts/material culture, foodways, and music across Central Appalachia. Grants of $30,000 support non-programming expenses to strengthen operational foundations. Three awards annually, one per state (Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee).
Eligibility
- Arts in Community: Southern artist or company; must visit another Southern state
- ETAP: Emerging traditional artists; must reside in Appalachian Regional Commission or Delta Regional Authority counties, or be members of state/federally recognized Native American tribes
- ITM: Nonprofits including cultural, faith-based, libraries, museums, presenters, and festivals; must be located in and serve at least one ARC county in Kentucky, North Carolina, or Tennessee
