The Ano Asites Artist Residency is located in a quiet village on the Greek island of Crete, half an hour from Heraklion City. It is run by Lakkos Artist Residency and is perfect for creative people seeking isolation to work on their projects. The residency runs twelve months of the year and is most suited to artists who have been to Greece before and are comfortable with solitude and an authentic village experience.

  • Application deadline: 2026-08-14
  • Residency starts: 2026-09-28
  • Residency ends: 2026-10-12

Minimum two-week stay. Two accommodation options are available: a newly renovated village apartment with two bedrooms (located near a sheep bell-making workshop, sometimes not quiet during working days, good for meeting locals), and a mountain hut for people with no mobility issues offering total isolation.

Most artists work on the terrace or in the kitchen of the village apartment. The mountain hut has one large room or an outside terrace for use on less windy days.

  • Village apartment and mountain hut: 300 Euros per week
  • Extra 50 Euros per week for partners or friends

Open to all disciplines. No prior experience required, though artists with previous Greece travel experience are preferred. You must have an independent spirit and appreciate solitude.

Submit a short description of what you want to do at the residency, information about who else will be coming with you, your preferred dates, how long you would like to stay, how you heard about the residency, plus an artist statement, short biography, website link, CV, or portfolio.

Run by an Australian who lives between the village and the city. For more information, see the website or Facebook group.
