Inuit and First Nations Arts - Impetus

Overview

Recognition is a program by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec supporting Inuit and First Nations arts. The Impetus component provides initial grants to boost the careers of early-stage and established Inuit and First Nations artists, contributing to their knowledge, recognition, professional development, and sponsorship opportunities.

Eligibility

• Be Inuit or a member of one of Canada's First Nations
• Be a Canadian citizen and customarily reside in Quebec
• Have resided in Quebec for the past 12 months
• Be continuously engaged in artistic practice (traditional, customary, contemporary, or mixed)
• Candidates residing outside Quebec for two or more years are ineligible unless they retain Quebec resident status

Award

$5,000 grant.

Application restrictions

• Maximum five separate grant applications per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) across all CALQ programs
• No more than three projects may be simultaneously analyzed, supported, or carried out
• Incomplete applications are ineligible

How to apply

Applications are accepted at all times on a rolling basis. An application must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the project start date. Applications must be submitted using the grant application form available in the Presentation of the application section—this program is not available through Mon dossier CALQ. For groups of artists, the application must be submitted by a third party (peer or cultural worker).

Presentation of application

Applicants can track their application progress through Mon dossier CALQ using Government Authentication Service. The CALQ sends an email acknowledgement of receipt.
