In-person events are held in different locations across the coverage region (Atlanta, the Caribbean, the Carolinas, and New Orleans), with virtual events on Zoom held within the same week.
First Book Club
The inaugural selection is Hothouse Bloom by Austyn Wohlers (published 2024 by Hub City Press). Burnaway's Editor and Artistic Director Courtney McClellan will lead discussions.

About Hothouse Bloom
A young woman renounces her painting career and human relationships to become one with her late grandfather's apple orchard. Her idyll is interrupted by an old friend's arrival and the hard demands of turning a profit. As the outside world invades through pickers, contractors, neighbors, and pomologists, what began as renunciation becomes a new obsession. The novel is described as "painterly, strange, and razor-sharp."
