Crosstown Art Residency Open Call

Overview

Crosstown Arts Residency welcomes visiting and local artists and curators to its multidisciplinary residency program in Memphis, TN, spanning visual arts, music, film, and literature. Set in an urban environment with shared spaces, the program promotes connection among residents and encourages engagement with the broader community.

Key Dates

• Application deadline: July 31, 2027
• Applications open: May 20, 2027
• Residency notifications: mid-fall
• 2027 sessions: Spring (Feb. 11–May 11), Summer (Jun. 3–Aug. 3), Fall (Sept. 9–Dec. 7)

Eligibility

• Age 18 or older at start of residency
• Any stage of career
• Open to artists based anywhere in the world
• Alumni not eligible for 2027 application

What's Included

• 24/7 access to private studio spaces
• Complimentary shared art workspace with analog and digital fabrication tools
• Music production suites
• Free YMCA membership for duration of residency
• For live/work residencies: private living quarters with shared kitchen, laundry, and communal areas
• All residencies are provided at no charge

Application Requirements

• Submit 5–8 work samples
• Artist statement required
• Residency goals required
• Applications scored by rotating selection panel of creative professionals with emphasis on inclusivity and diversity

Residency Length & Costs

• Residency length: 2–3 months
• $20 application fee
• $200 refundable deposit required per resident
• Artists responsible for studio materials, meals, and travel to/from Memphis

Expectations

• Participate in open studio with fellow residents
• Give artist talk or presentation

• ADA-compliant housing: private housing on or off campus, or private bedroom in shared housing facility on campus
