About Nordic Culture Point

Nordic Culture Point facilitates encounters and interaction between art, culture, and society through collaboration and co-creation, showcasing a changing Nordic Region. The organization is an institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland. It administers several of the Nordic Council of Ministers' funding programmes for culture and society, runs a Nordic library, and organizes cultural events in Helsinki and around Finland.

History

  • 1978–1996: Nordiskt konstcentrum operates from Suomenlinna
  • 1997–2006: The Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA) takes over activities at Suomenlinna
  • 1997: The Nordic Institute in Finland (NIFIN) is established on Kajsaniemigatan in Helsinki
  • 2007: Nordic Culture Point begins administering the Nordic Council of Ministers' funding programmes for culture in Suomenlinna
  • 2012: Nordic Culture Point and the Nordic Institute in Finland merge
  • 2017: The organization changes its Swedish name from Kulturkontakt Nord to Nordisk kulturkontakt
