About
Overview
This program, transferred from SODEC to CALQ, assists professional visual artists in Quebec to acquire and develop tools or equipment required for creation, promotion, and distribution of their work. The program aims to improve production conditions, consolidate workshop safety, foster professional networks, and cultivate the promotion and sale of artists' work.
Eligible Disciplines
Visual arts encompassing painting, sculpture, engraving, photography, drawing, illustration, mixed techniques, installations, comic strips, performance, textile arts, video art, or any other form of related expression.
Eligibility
- Professional artist with at least 3 years of professional artistic practice in Quebec or elsewhere
- Canadian citizen or landed immigrant as defined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Normally resident in Quebec with residency of at least 12 months prior to application
- Work must have been publicly disseminated in venues or contexts recognized by peers
- Must commit to match or exceed the grant amount with own funds (grant covers maximum 50% of eligible expenses)
Award
- Maximum $10,000 per year per artist
- Covers no more than 50% of eligible project expenses
- Example: For a $3,000 computer purchase, CALQ covers maximum $1,500
Eligible Expenses
Tools, equipment, and technology for creation, promotion, and distribution. GST and QST taxes cannot be included in eligible expenses and must be deleted from the detailed budget.
Environmental Responsibility
As of February 25, 2026, a new sub-criterion related to environmental responsibility has been introduced. This contributes to overall analysis of the Project Management section alongside budget soundness and project feasibility, but is not a determining factor.
