About the Recipient
Amina Scott is an upright and electric bassist, educator, composer, and arranger based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born and raised in Oakland, CA, she began piano lessons with her grandmother and took up electric bass at age 12. In 2017, she was selected as a fellow at Ravinia Steans Institute of Music, where she studied under Billy Childs, Rufus Reid, and Nathan Davis. She leads her own band and has performed with Nicholas Payton, Joanne Brackeen, Herlin Riley, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Randy Brecker, and Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah. Her debut album, Where The Wild Seed Grows, is available on all platforms. She currently holds teaching positions at Loyola University New Orleans and University of New Orleans.
