ArtsHERE is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with South Arts and the five other U.S. Regional Arts Organizations. The program invests in nonprofit organizations committed to equity and meaningful community engagement to increase arts participation among underserved groups. NOTE: The program has received a notice of funding termination from the NEA; South Arts has requested reconsideration.

  • Nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated commitment to equity within their practices and programming
  • Organizations that have undertaken consistent engagement with underserved groups/communities
  • Applications welcome from organizations diverse in geography, scale, and arts focus, including those working at the intersection of arts and other domains (community development, health/well-being, climate/environment, economic development)
  • Investment: Approximately 95 nonprofit organizations will receive nonmatching grants of $65,000 to $130,000 for specific projects strengthening organizational capacity for community engagement and increased arts participation
  • Learning: Peer-learning and technical assistance opportunities designed to share knowledge and build networks
  • Evaluation: Documentation and evaluation by the NEA to understand project activities and approaches, resulting in lessons learned to inform future similar programs
