Overview
SmART Ventures provides $500 to $1,500 in support for projects, opportunities, or events that make an arts or cultural impact in Seattle. Individuals, organizations, and community groups can request this funding when they need start-up money or final investment. Events must be open to the public and take place in Seattle.
Key Dates
- Rolling deadline: applications open year-round
- Monthly submission deadline: 5 PM Pacific on the last Friday of each month
- Award notifications: third week of the following month
- Information Sessions: First and Third Thursdays, 11:30 AM–12:15 PM (virtual)
- Draft Review Sessions: First and Third Thursdays, 12:30 PM–1:15 PM (virtual)
Eligibility
- Based in Seattle or greater Seattle area; projects must take place in Seattle and benefit Seattle residents
- Not currently funded by Centering Art & Racial Equity, Youth Arts, or Neighborhood and Community Arts programs
- Not funded by CityArtist program or received funding within last 4 years
- Project must be at least 6 weeks out from application submission deadline
- Youth under 18 may apply with an adult authorized representative to sign contracts and receive funds
- Maximum of two lifetime awards; must wait 12 months from previous project end date to reapply
How to Apply
- Complete the online application and have it signed
- Submit to [email protected] by 5 PM Pacific on the last Friday of the month
- Allow at least six weeks before your event or project launch date
- Bring 2-3 questions to a Draft Review Session for feedback
Evaluation Criteria
- Audience Expansion: Does your project support underserved artists or communities? Does it expand or diversify participation?
- Innovation: Does your project provide a new or unique perspective? Is it creative and uses arts distinctly?
- Community Impact: Does your project address community need or build community through arts and culture?
- Public Access: Must have broad public appeal, be accessible to various segments, and have effective outreach
- Artistic Potential: Provide at least one work sample (written, image, or video) demonstrating artistic quality or development potential
- Feasibility: Ability to carry out project, well-thought-out plan, realistic budget, and timeline

- Food and drink
- Equipment purchases
- Religious services
- Fundraising
- Activities or costs that take place before you receive your grant
Award & Payment
If selected, you will receive up to $1,500. City funding is awarded after your project is completed. Expect payment three to four weeks after all required documents, including your final invoice and report, have been received. If you receive an award less than requested and cannot complete the project, you may decline the award.
