Overview
Surel's Place offers month-long artist residencies in a one-bedroom home with spacious studio in the heart of Boise's Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District. The program supports visual, literary, multimedia, and performance artists of any career stage, aged 25 and older, from anywhere in the world. The residency provides quiet, intentional creative space, with proximity to downtown Boise and the local arts community.
What's Included
- One-month residency in private housing (individual house/apartment)
- Private studio space with equipment (easels, painting workspace, printmaking workspace, fiber arts workspace, sinks, etc.)
- Universal design/ADA-compliant accessibility
- Access to private kitchen
- Washer and dryer
- Exhibition/installation space and performance facilities
Artist Support & Stipends
- $100 per week stipend for living expenses ($400 total for month-long residency)
- $300 travel stipend
- No residency fees (free to stay)

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit work and a proposal outlining their specific intentions and creative process for the residency. All applications are reviewed by accomplished artists in the applicant's discipline, who independently evaluate the candidate's work, intention, proposal, and access to artistic support. Selection based on peer recommendations, availability, timing, and Surel's Place commitment to antiracism and amplifying historically underrepresented voices.
