About
Overview
Backside is a feature film (85 min.) by filmmaker Raúl, a Mexican immigrant cinematographer and multimedia creator. The film offers an intimate portrait of the migrant workers at Churchill Downs' barns in Louisville, Kentucky, who prepare thoroughbred horses for racing. Shot over five years with an all-Latinx team of filmmakers and groom experts, the film reveals the symbiotic relationship between human and animal labor and exposes entrenched disparities of race and class at the Kentucky Derby.
