Inuit and First Nations Arts - Microgrants

Overview

Recognition is a CALQ program supporting Inuit and First Nations arts in Quebec. The Microgrants component supports artists with streamlined applications and expedited processing. The program aims to contribute to the knowledge, recognition and promotion of Inuit and First Nations artists; foster reappropriation and transmission of traditional knowledge, languages and arts; facilitate early career and professional development; support artists throughout their careers; and support dissemination and circulation of works and artists.

Eligibility

• Be Inuit or a member of one of Canada's First Nations
• Be continuously engaged in artistic practice (traditional, customary, contemporary, or mixed)
• Be a Canadian citizen and Quebec resident for the past 12 months
• Have participated in at least one peer-recognized production outside training period, OR have produced and disseminated at least one artwork publicly in a peer-recognized context outside training period, OR (for emerging artists) demonstrate peer/elder/community recognition via letter

Eligible Expenses

Candidate remuneration, transmission of information, continuing education, internships, first professional experiences, sponsorships, travel, circulation of artworks, rental of specialized equipment, purchases of materials, promotion, creation, research.

Application Requirements

Applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the project start date. Candidates may submit up to five separate grant applications per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) across all CALQ programs. All submitted applications count toward the annual maximum. Candidates may not have more than three projects simultaneously being analyzed, supported, or carried out.

Groups of Artists

An application by a group must be submitted by a sole artist/applicant who is Inuit or a member of one of Canada's First Nations and meets eligibility criteria. If approved, the grant is paid to the applicant as group representative, who manages the project and budget.

Ineligibility

• Projects completed as part of a program of studies leading to a diploma
• Projects already rejected by CALQ
• Incomplete applications
• Candidates who fail to submit a grant report more than three months after project completion
