Overview

This advisory meeting is designed for professional or emerging professional artists and early-career cultural organization workers seeking targeted guidance on specific aspects of a grant or funding application. With public funding consultant Charlie Julien, participants can receive advice adapted to their situation based on information submitted in advance. The meeting does not include a complete file review but rather aims to clarify specific points, direct future work, and identify concrete strategies to improve certain elements of the application.

Objectives

Participants will be able to ask specific questions related to a funding application, obtain targeted feedback on a text, budget, program choice, or submission strategy, better understand certain elements expected in an application file, identify aspects to rework or clarify, and leave with concrete steps for the next phase of their process.

Requirements

Participants must have an application already in preparation, a project to submit, or specific questions related to their situation. At registration, participants must complete a form specifying the context of their application, documents to review, and priority questions to address.

About the Consultant

Charlie Julien holds a diploma (DESS) in cultural organization management from HEC Montreal and a bachelor's degree (BAC) in dramatic arts with a focus on theater studies from UQAM. With over 10 years in the arts and culture sector, he has worked with organizations including Les Filles électriques, Festival Phénomena, Conseil québécois du théâtre (CQT), and Association québécoise des marionnettistes (AQM). Since 2021, working independently as a cultural manager, he provides consulting on public and private funding, administration, and development for approximately forty artists, creation companies, presenters, and arts service organizations. His experience includes writing and revising over 100 grant applications and serving on the evaluation committee for Pratiques artistiques non disciplinaires at Conseil des arts de Montréal since 2023. He has particular interest in interdisciplinary arts, alternative practices, emerging artists' work, and issues related to accessibility and underrepresented communities in the arts.
